HELP! Need advice from a techno-geek ;-) Message board

Hey, all! I'm computer literate, but computer-tech illiterate! So, I need to ask some of you smart tech people for some advice.

I don't have a telephone line at home because I strictly use my cell phone for both massage business and personal business. I also don't have cable. I don't watch television enough to justify the expense of cable, but I am contemplating going for a dish service. It's a little cheaper...but JUST a little.

Do I have any options other than getting an isp through satellite? Is there something feasible to use with a cell phone?

I live in a small-to-mid size city so I'm not sure about wireless access. We don't have any coffee houses that I know of that offer any access.

    Any advice?

    Thanks for your help,
    DeAnna

If you aren't looking to spend much money on internet and don't mind sharing with others, then the library is probably your best bet. You can usually get online for free there.

If you use your cell for data, there will be much higer charges (when i use my palm-phone for data i get charged a higer rate per minute. I would say, is not worth it, get yourself a land line with the basic service, no-frills and forget about it.

I'm not at all a "geek" but I am aware enough to know that it'll be MUCH better and cheaper to have basic cable installed and then subscribe to Road Runner or some service like that. Don't use VERIZON though, people tell me they are poor providers. If you do it the way that I said then you can get a cheap TV card for your computer and save the expense of buying a TV. Good Luck!

Hi Deanna. There are attachment that you can buy to use your cell phone as a modem. I don't know how much they cost. If you aren't online much and have a public library near you , you can always get online for free! Good luck
