I haven't read all the posts here just yet, but I'm dying to lose some weight. I'm 240 lbs at the moment, and gaining for reasons unknown. I'm a health food freak and and vegan at home, so it doesn't reallly make a whole lot of sense to me. I'm a zoology student and reasonably active but even when i was going to the gym 4 days a week for 3 hours I was maintaining, not losing weight. Would love some tips on how to lose those 70 extra pesky pounds! (I'd be contentish around 170 as I'm quite muscular at 5'7)
I am new to the site but i just need some advice. i weigh 620 lbs. and no diets have worked or anything i just dont know what to do. If anyone has any advice to offer, I 'd love to hear it.
New to here also, but wanted to comment about low impact exercise for people who are unable to engage in a high impact exercise program. I've been in the rehab medical field for many years, so am extremely familiar with the medical conditions that will not allow certain types of exercise.
I have taught a Queen Size Belly Dance (Maharani Belly Dancers) exercise class through the years and it works for so many people! No impact, gentle movements combined with cardio really gives one a workout. And never let ANYONE say "it looks so easy"
My theory was that ladies of any size and fitness level would enjoy learning some of the movments and exercising at the same time. (No costumes or performances required...just a willingness to participate and a sense of humour). And I ended up with ladies of ALL sizes (even slim) and ages 14 through 73!
I haven't given the classes for over a year (due to schedule conflicts, etc.), but have started looking around for a place to hold them again.
There are some great Belly Dance videos/DVDs out there. I prefer the twins (Neena and Veena) 'Slim Down' to start off with. I became acquainted with the gentleman who does a lot of the music for their videos and have all of his CDs.
Belly Dance as an exercise is truly a great alternative to consider. And do I even have to mention the reaction you get when you casually bring it up in a conversation with a gentleman?
Hi everyone, I'm brand new to this sight and could sure use some help. I have been large all my life but am now starting to worry about my health.I have Fibromyalgia and am now suffering from chronic back pain. I once belonged to Curves and loved it,what a great place, but my back put a stop to that. Since then the pounds have been creeping back on and I am felling worse as the days go by. If anyone has any REAL suggestions or advise , I'll take it.

My simple weight loss method wass to get away from the enviorment that made me so depressed! Aside from being abusive, my ex-husband was a real @$$ about my weight. His ragging on my weight after I had our second child and then his abusive temper turned on my children and I decided I had enough. I was 310lbs when I seperated.
I consulted a doctor and was started on Phentermine a year and a half ago. I dropped to 250lbs! That's 60lbs!!!
Then I decided that I would stop taking the medicine. So I did, I got onto a regular diet. I started studying jeet kun do and archery. I also started dancing! I was able to eat carbs in moderation and I only drink water. I got rid of sodas and kool aid. Eat more fruits and vegetables and I've dropped down to 220lbs!
When I walked into the court room for my merits hearing, my ex's chin fell to the floor. It's a memory I will never forget and for the first time I was able to look him in the eye and not be reduced to tears by the memory of his hurtful words. I don't think he realized I had this much strength within me.
My ultimate goal is 180lbs. I am determined to meet that goal in another 6 months and then I'll be ready to tear up the dating scene.
Surrounding myself with people who have positive outlooks and the same determination to succeed is also a factor in my new outlook on life.

I seriously need to start dieting/exercising again. I lost 90 lbs once ..cutting carbs etc. I've gotten lazy lately and the lbs have been creeping up again. I just wish i had a work out partner. Hello everyone. I'm new here and I would like to say the older you get the harder it takes the weight to come off. I've been there and done it. I have had to constantly watch my weight most of my life. I stayed active while attending college. I took all kind of physical activities that I know would make me have a good work out. When I was younger I was self motivated, I didn't need that extra push. But in the last six years I was going through some things and I was stressing. I put on so much weight without really realizing it. I went to look at some of the clothes in my closet and tried to put them on man oh man I could get nothing pass my thighs. I knew it was time to do something about it. I use to be very active, I went to the gym 4 to 5 times a week and worked out for 1 1/2 and swam for another hour. I felt so good about myself until I had my last child everything shattered for me. All it has done was made me stronger. Now I'm back in the gym doing my thang. But very now and then I do need that extra push. For all of you that's trying to lose weight let's visit the forum frequently and motivate each other. Good luck to everyone! Hey I'm up for dieting I need to shift a few extra pounds. I have just joined this workout called "Body Jam" it's great. It last for an hr and basically your dancing to music. They're fun routines, none you would take with you to clubs though! You get through about 6 songs in the hour with a little rest between each one. I have been doing it for 3 weeks it's all i've changed in the way of my lifestyle , although it has taken 3 weeks to see any results, I've lost 7lbs now!
