I am none of those but i am very curious about it.I think there are a lot of misconceptions about the pagan/wiccan beliefs. A lot of people equate Satanism with them due to the pentogram thing.I hope someone can elaborate .I would love to learn something new.
Well basically, very basically, there really is no Satan to a true Wiccan. And the pentagram is different. A Wiccan symbol is a straight up and down five pointed star. The "Satanists" ripped it off and tilted it to the left so as to look more like a goat or ram, as he is their horned god.
And just an observation, it sucks to try to be a Wiccan in Utah and expect to find anyone to go out with. LOL
I just joined and this is my first experience with internet dating sites. I was pleasantly surprised to find "Pagan" on the list of religions, and even more pleasantly surprised to find this discussion thread.
I am a solitary pagan, and have dedicated myself to studying Wicca for the past two years, though I have been interested for many years prior. It's great to see other pagans here, and others who are so respectful of pagan beliefs.
Am African American and decades ago, traced my ROOTS back paternally/maternally to Black Africa through Vodou(traditional beliefs). I consider Vodou spiritual not religious. I have been to Africa many times and was there early this year and last year too. I have stayed with my maternal tribe in my Ancestral home town(2002), as one's Spirit is from only one family, mine the maternal-side. I am also pro-polygamy but not in non-polygamous societies. It is a big world out here and I do not waste my time on needless struggles. Oh, yes, I do know the beings that live in water(another dimension), "the little people" whom live in yet another dimension on Earth and also the 7 foot tall blue-black complexioned beings, whom live 1,000 of age in another dimension. So things written in books, regarding the Spiritual world are unimportant in comparison to my experiences in my lives. Organized religions are lite-weight and for uncommitted people.
I was wondering if there were any of "my kind" on this site...and here you are loud and proud! I'm fairly eclectic, melding both eastern and western traditions; however, right now I'm focusing on my Green Witchery (I know that we are all truly Green Witches!) because I am studying to be a master herbalist (certified).
Yes, we are often misunderstood...and for more reasons than just the pentacle. For many centuries the Holy Roman Empire ran a vast and aggressive propaganda campaign against the various western pagan beliefs. I laugh everytime I get in an elevator and there's no 13th floor! Of course, I find that most Christians know little if anything about their own history and are shocked when I am loaded with information (I'm a medieval scholar). According to Amazon.com, pagans are the more avid readers than any other religious group (I think it was Amazon).
Well, if anyone wants to chat further about this, I'm always looking for a good conversation!
Hey Scarlet Witch, I am in Miamisburg. I belong to Miami Valley UU. The CUUPS group will be participating in Pagan Pride day in Piqua later this month. Give me a shout if you want info.
I'm a solitairy Pagan practitioner and raise my 2 children by the old ways. I'm proud to be Pagan and be recognized as such, even with all the "bad press" I get from my next door neighbor who happens to be a priest. But we have many a conversation on the front porch about both of our beliefs and he still invites me to his congregations... I think more to try and change me then anything else, but after 5 years, he still hasn't and we still continue our fun and friendly bantering with each other.
I must admit this is probably one of the most maligned and misunderstood of religions. Although not practising I have found within the Pagan traditions root elements and practises that are often mirrored by many of the more traditional faith groups. Please be encourged by your commitment and devotion to Wiccanism and know that many honour you for being pure and honest in your practise.
I love that this thread is going. I am not wiccan or pagan but I think its pretty cool. I love many of the rituals. I have actually been in a spiral dance led by Starhawk and it was so lovely. I am a devoted environmentalist so really appreciate the ways yall take the earth and all her inhabitants into the mix. I used to live in California and there was a coven that hired me to make lunar cakes for every winter solstice. The cakes were kind of based on a natural fruitcake. But the witches would wildcraft and grow all the ingredients including the wheat used. Then fruits would be dried, tinctures and infusions made, nuts cracked, eggs gathered, honey collected and wheat ground too the chanting of incantations. I would make several test versions that were brought to the coven set in the midst of a cast circle and whichever cake had the highest vibrations determined which recipe I used. They would come into the kitchen - a commercial space that we used on the day of the week that the facility was not doing its usual runs. They would conduct cleansing ceremonies and then hover about helping and casting as the ingreditns came to gether and baked. Then they would take the cakes and soak them in wild elderberry tinctures and other tinctures and infusions then wrap them in muslin and bury them in their circle for a time. When ready they would dig them up and give them as solstice gifts. I always felt very honored to be chosen to bake the cakes each year. It was great fun.
I'm a wiccan..I have been for 5yrs now.I don't practice alone but with a coven of friends.I work on witching stones and tarot.Past life regressions have become more popular with me.
I am a pagan as well. I am a solitary. I've been practicing for almost 10 years. I am untraditional as I tend to go with what comes natural to me. I don't to "rituals" or "spells". Again, I just do what feels right. So, with that said, MM & BB!!
Yer!!! great to see other Pagans on here been a solitary witch for over 20 yrs, would like to meet my Merlin but sadly not as yet & I'm not a full member as yet
Merry Meet Everyone....I have been following the path for about 12yrs and I love my way of life. I'm a Old Traditional Green Witch. I ran a study group for about three years out of my home and I loved it and would do it again. I'm hoping to start a coven in the future for our area.
