PSP looks like it could be fun. However, I'm kinda shy and probably wouldn't show up to something like that alone. Especially since the people that do go know each other. I would feel like an outsider.
Hmm... I think we need a place that is fun but not loud and rowdy. A lot of pubs play loud music, especially on weekends, and I personally would like to go somewhere where we can actually talk/hear.
The Duke of York might be good, or the Madison (but not on a weekend), or if we want someplace more sedate, maybe the Red Room. This last one is more restaurant-ish than the others, but that means it would be quiet and relaxed.
I've just checked and the PSP site is back up. Sinfully and I had very different experiences at PSP, but I suggest you try it and decide for yourself if it's for you. Lately the events are at Bert & Ernie's or the Second Floor Lounge (both in Mississauga). I met my two last boyfriends at PSP events, so that proves people can be friendly there!
I'm kind of surprised that you had such a bad time at PSP. I've been going on-and-off for a couple of years and met nice people, both male and female. It's true the men aren't usually chatty with the women (unless encouraged), but isn't that the same everywhere? I'd recommend trying it once more time, and bring your friendly face!
A Toronto-area gettogether for locals is a great idea. You might also consider attending the Plus-Size Planet events which are held at various places around Toronto and Mississauga 2 - 3 times per month.
