Finally Inteligent Design came up.

That is really the most pathetic psudo science in my life time at least.

It really scares me that people could believe it.

I just threw the "intelligent design" in there to make the argument sound a little more, umm, feasible... it was convenient at that time.

Ahh, Islam... on another site I tend to frequent (it's about end times prophecies in the Bible) a part of the Koran was posted, and it plainly shows that Islam teaches its followers to kill anyone who does not follow it.

Yes, there are extremists in Christianity, Judiasm, and Islam, but Islam is the only one I know of right now that currently teaches people to kill for not believing.

Islam, contrary to what its followers want you to believe, is NOT a religion of peace.

"If thy brother, the son of thy mother, or thy son, or thy daughter, or the wife of thy bosom, or thy friend, which is as thine own soul, entice thee secretly, saying, Let us go and serve other gods, which thou hast not known, thou, nor thy fathers; Namely, of the gods of the people which are round about you ... Thou shalt not consent unto him, nor hearken unto him; neither shall thine eye pity him, neither shalt thou spare, neither shalt thou conceal him: But thou shalt surely kill him; thine hand shall be first upon him to put him to death, and afterwards the hand of all the people. And thou shalt stone him with stones, that he die." -- Dt.13:6-10

We perceive reality in a subjective way but that doesn't mean that there isn't an objective reality to perceive.

If 1 cat dies then it's no longer true that there are a billion cats because otherwise the word "death" is meaningless and what was meant by alive in the first place was was something quite different. That's semantic flim-flam.

A concept called Locus of control came up in my psych lecture last night.

Basicly it's a scale

High Locus of Control= you believe you make your own destiny and things that go wrong are your own doing etc.

Low Locus of control= you believe others control your life and outside forces make your life more difficult or easy etc.

I score highly so i don't need religion or others good opinions etc to feel good about myself. It's fairly liberating really.

I wonder if some of the fundie's in the other post would have low scores?

The bit about life having no meaning without god, please, thats called co-dependancy.

Hi. Finally I see someone who I identify with. I believe that we should respect each other's views, but unfortunately (and I'm talking about my personal experiences, so nobody needs to have a go at me!) I've found that religious people can preach their views to me, but if I return with my views on not being religious, I'm ostracised for being blasphemous. I know plenty of people who are morally bullied into not saying anything against religion for fear of being branded terrible, yet religious people can say what they want, and that their view is right. Bit hypocritical. I respect their views even though I do not agree, so they should respect my views. Unfortunately, this doesn't happen. Very one sided. I though religious people loved everyone, no matter what their views. Thanks for listening/reading.

I've been kind of sitting back and watching this one. As an avowed atheist, I don't like having to feel that I have to defend my views, nor do I EVER expound my views or push them on anyone.

Let the entertainment continue.....lol

Phew Kragen,

You had me worried for a while there.

Well i didn't want keep hounding you cause i do think everyone is entitled to there beliefs and don't apprieciate when others try and convert me so i thought i'd start my own little thread for those who still wanted to chat about religion but knowing it's coming from someone who is not a christian.

I had some Real Life (TM) things to tend to that kept me from following along for a couple days, plus I had to wait for all the posts to actually show up before figuring out where everyone stood on which topic.

What I do find to be interesting...

The f a r t h e r (okay, this is getting really stupid) away we got from Biblical events, the more people started to doubt the Bible's validity.

And it looks like I have to cut this post short... just got some bad news from a friend.
