I'm rather taking a pole here. Would like to know what everyone prefers to be called. I like the thread about not all BBW being beautiful in regards to personality and so forth. I think the BBW/SSBBW thing is just so much a label. Skinny people don't have labels. Why should we? And fat? Well, let's get real. I know I am. I don't need anyone else enlightening me on this. I suppose I prefer large or big. I usually refer to myself as one or the other when describing myself to others. Got a bit of an argument going on with someone about this. Would love to hear from everyone.
I actually prefer fat. We're all thinking it. I hate euphemisms because I'm a realist. I saw another poster say it's all about tone and that is quite true as well. Although, when referring to others, I will say plus-size or shapely simply because I don't know how sensitive they are about their weight. The last thing I want to do is make someone feel bad (or worse) about themselves. If using a different vernacular makes them feel safe, then I definitely will. When it comes to how I describe myself, I'll be fat all day. No pun intended.
Well to be honest with u i call my self a bbw ( in the circle that knows what a bbw woman is lol) In the general public i call myself a large woman. If no one likes me o well thats life, most important is that I like myself.
I don't care to be called fat by others but I'm fully aware of my size and willing to acknowledge it so I don't have a problem calling myself fat... really I prefer that if another person has to describe my physical looks for them to say plus size, curvy, chubby, thick... whatever so long as their polite about it, now insulting and degrading about my size is another thing entirely ... then Fat becomes fighting words.
As a guy that is not so big (I am only 5'8'',165lbs... I prefer to be called as often as possible, so VanHockeyMom... Well, I have a deep appreciation for art in many forms. And figurative portaits of women painted in the rubenesqque style were beautiful. Rubenesque promotes a title that describes women tha the artist was enthralled with, who became the standard of beauty, and by painting them, he promoted them, and thus made many rubenesque woman happy. I picked Rubenesque because loving beautiful/big women is good for all of us. Rubenesque is a positive label.
That's nice and all, but why do we need labels? Aren't we men and women; no better or worse than anyone else. Isn't it just possible that the adoption, usage, and (subsequent) identification with these derrogatory labels an incentive to discriminate?
Fat, big, large, whatever ... all boils down to th esame thing and I only need to look in the mirror for affirmation! As with so many things it depends on the tone ..... I often refer to myself as a fat bird or similar, but it's not so nice if a stranger does that.
The one I really hate with a vengeance is the American use of "thick". In (real!) English that means stupid, and no-one gets away with calling me that!
Ever read "The Fat Girls Guide To Life?" by Wendy Shank er.It is hysterical and actually encourages desensitization to the word fat. She encourages its use. "Wow she sure is beautiful and fat." If someone asks you if you're pregnant reply "no, I'm, just fat." Let that person be the humiliated one. Fat as a word is only as powerful as you make it. Words like shapely, full-figured, busty, big boned, Large brick house are all just nicer/euphemistic ways to dance around the word fat. F it we're fat and we are beautiful!
Actually for places like this I am glad we have a nice little term like BBW. That lets someone else know what your body type isn't. I do not have a tiny body if some one is looking for a skinny, athletic build, etc. they know right off the bat. It saves time. There is no perfect term, face it there never will be so we have to work with what we have. It is so much better than obese or morbidly obese!
There are all sorts of terms to describe a woman who maybe different from other women. There may be all sorts of acronyms. I think they are mostly used by people who need to segregate themselves and, thereby, cut down the competition. There should be no need to segregate ourselves unless we wish to belong to a seperate group; and I sincerely approve of and use the term Beautiful woman until I would get to know the woman. After I've gotten to know more about her then I'd be willing to use that inital "B". Of course that added "B" (for big) might still refer to her size, personality, sincerity, the ammount of love she has, many many other things. Maybe the term BBW is not a descriptive term but, instead, a question...........
