I was born in Quebec, Canada but still hold on to my italian heritage through music, film and cultural activities. As well having studied italian for many years I pass this gift on to many people I have taught throughout the years.
My family dates back in the US back to the Mayflower so I am pretty pure American. My father's mother was 100% German though, so that makes me 1/4 German. However, I tend to think of myself as a world citizen. I am currently a resident of China. All my friends here are from other countries, so I am just another international here.
I'm Swedish but the interesting thing from my POV is that least 90% here are from US, UK, Canada, Australia and some from West Europe. Where the heck are the others?
I'm 75% Sicilian and 25% Spanish. I joke that I'm the recessive gene pool because I got all of the Northern Spanish traits, like pale skin, blue eyes, and light hair but I definitely got the Sicilian figure--short, with a big chest, child-bearing hips, and a narrow waist. Everyone else in my family looks very Italian--reunions and get-togethers often look like an episode of "The Sopranos"!

My parents are into Geneology, so I know that we go back to dozens of generations of German with a side branch of Dutch. My Aunt married a Mexican Dr., so my cousins have a more interesting addition to the family tree. I married a Russian Jew whose family doesn't have many generations of information. They don't know of any living relatives left in the home country.
when you're an african american it's really hard to determine your cultural background. all we can go by is the stories that are told generation to generation to us by older family members. because of this thing called slavery and having had a blue eyed very light skinned great grandmother who's own grandmother was a slave it's hard to know the slave owners background. and whatever it was, you're still considered black. because to most that's all they see. but if you want to know what was told to us by our elders, each story is different. there are also geneological libraries that can assist those (of US) who have the need to know more about the slave owners who may've fathered an ancestor of theirs if they're willing to do research. good luck.
I am Native American, Choctaw Tribe on my mother's side. My father's side is Russian German. My father left when I was young so I identify with my indian side more.
Like a lot of Quebecers, I'm french all around. My ancesters came to Nouvelle-France almost 400 years ago from Normandy. We did the family tree on both the maternal and paternal sides and we were able to actually go back to France and dig further...
With all my uncles, aunts and cousins, we were able to go back 600 years, to discover that our surname is the name of the village my ancester came from with a misspelling added, so it doesn't exists anywhere else then in Quebec.
We had such a great time doing this and we still are.
