I think your favorite quote says a lot about your personality, I have two and I can't decide which is my favorite
"I may disagree with what you say, but I will defend, to the death, your right to say it" -Voltaire
and
"A pessimist is someone who make difficulties of their opportunities and an optimist is someone who make opportunities of their difficulties"
-Harry Truman
"It is kind of fun to do the impossible" - Walt Disney, he is my idol.
"There are more things in heaven and earth than are dreamt of in your philosophy" - Hamlet, my favorite story.
but my favorite that I live by is:
"Greatness comes not when things go always good for you. Greatness comes when you're really tested, when you take some knocks, some disappointments, when sadness comes. Because only if you've been in the deepest valley can you ever know how magnificent it is to be on the highest mountain." - Richard Nixon
Here is one that I firmly believe, but unfortunatly the person that this quote was intended for is no longer in my life. I hope that someday another can come along and I will feel this way about again. Here goes:
Onece a tear fell from my cheek and into the ocean, the day I find it will be the day that I stop loving you.
~If you love someone tell them because hearts are often broken by words left unspoken.
~Love is like heaven but hurts like hell.
~The only guy that deserves you is the one who thinks he doesn?t.
~Love me for who I am, not what you want me to be.
~A best friend is the one who can look at you with the biggest smile on your face and still know something?s wrong.
~you can?t get someone out of your head then maybe they?re meant to be there.
~Love is giving someone the power to destroy you but trusting them not to.
~Love isn?t about finding the perfect person; it?s about seeing an imperfect person perfectly.
~I?m expensive sweetie.
~Love is life, and if you miss love you miss life.
~Real love stories never have happy endings because real love stories never end.
~I push the boundaries,
I don?t overstep them.
~Our glory is not ever falling,
But rising every time we fall.
~I dont prey for an easy life,
I prey for the strength to endure a difficult one.
~Hold the person you love close to you.
The one you love,
Not the person who simply has sex wit you?
Appreciate them to the fullest and beyond,
Cause you don?t know what you got,
Till its gone?
~You were born an original,
Don?t die a copy.
~The truth is, everyone's going to hurt you, you just have to decide who's worth the pain.

~As we grow up, we learn that even the one person that wasn?t ever supposed to ever let you down probably will. You will have your heart broken probably more then once and its harder every time. You?ll break hearts too, so remember how it felt when yours was broken. You?ll fight with a best friend. You?ll blame a new love for something an old love did. You?ll cry because time is passing too fast, and youll eventually lose someone you love. So take too many pictures, laugh too much, and love like you?ve never been hurt because every sixty seconds you spend upset is a minute of happiness youll never get back~
"Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn't do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover."
What a great thread, I have always loved quotes as well. I don't really have only one favourite but I will put up a few that come to mind...
"Of all the words in the English language the saddest ones are these... it might have been." (I think it's Woodsworth but I'm not sure.)
"Learning never made a snob but education did." (don't remember who said it)
"The power of life and death are in the tongue." (from the Bible)
"Faith is the bird that feels the light and sings while the dawn is still dark." R. Tagore
I also love some of Marcus Aurelius' thoughts but I don't want to quote them till I know I have them verbatim.
One thing that I find rather funny is that many of the people today are selling books with these supposedly great new thoughts in them about life when really they are not new at all. Many of these thoughts can be found in both the Bible and even in the thoughts of great thinkers thousands of years ago. A prime example is the quote from the Bible about the power of life and death being in the tongue. Today they are talking about how it is important to always speak positively because of the effect that negative talk has on us, etc. as this is something they've recently determined but really this is old knowledge, not new.
Oh my God jjiggl, That quote has me all giddy inside. i didn't think I could feel more admiration for Dr. Angelou and you go and tell me this. Thanks. Oh here's one I heard on the street, "User are loser". I thought about the people I know always trying to get over on any and everybody. And it's so true. They're constantly losing and havn't a clue why.
"When a person shows you who they really are, believe them" -- Maya Angelou.
When I first saw that quote it stunned me because at the time I was not doing so well after breaking up with a boyfriend. This man treated me like dog crap on the bottom of his shoe and I had the toughest time getting over him and to this day, I am not sure why I had such a difficult time getting over him. I tried all I could to get him to love me the way that I wanted to be loved, but he never did. Once I read that quote, it opened my eyes to the fact that he was incapable of being the man that I wanted him to be. With that realization, I was able to let go.
The quote helped me when I was getting to know the man that I am currently in love with now. I took in all that I could observe about him and saw that he was the man that could love me the way that I wanted to be loved. And I was right.
"Teachers of my early youth taught forgiveness stressed the truth. Here then is my Christian lack: If I'm struck then I'll strike back":Dr. Maya Angelou, Lord in my heart. But I always state the last part as:" If I am struck then I will strike back".
