I have to write a paper about a poem in my English class. I found this poem and think I will make it my new motto.
Lucille Clifton (1936)
Homage to My Hips
these hips are big hips.
they need space to
move around in.
they don't fit into little
pretty places. these hips
are free hips.
they don't like to be held back.
these hips have never been enslaved,
they go where they want to go
they do what they want to do.
these hips are mighty hips.
these hips are magic hips.
i have known them
to put a spell on a man and
spin him like a top!
That's a great poem. I had to read that for a class once too, only we were asked to write parodies of it. Just for fun, here's mine. Enjoy, and please, remember it's a parody; i.e. meant to be taken lightly (pun intended)!
ode to my obesity: a parody of Lucille Clifton?s homage to my hips
these hips are big hips.
but let?s not forget
my thunderous thighs.
they dance a little with
each step. these hips
are but a
small part of my ever widening whole.
the flabby fringe hanging from my arms,
it goes where it wants to go
it does what it wants to do.
my a** is an enormous a**.
my a** is an expanding a**.
i have known it
to put a spell on a man and
send him running at first sight!
