Wow.... Add what good ole' Webster has to say to all of the previous post's and we have a compiled mass of various opinions.
So what does all this mean?
To me it means that it just might be a good idea to have your lines of communication open and in full use when using the word "love" with prospective mates. Know what the word means to the other so that wrong assumptions aren't made, resulting in unneccesary hurt feelings.
I for one tell lots of people "I love you"... but its a whole different story to say "I'm In Love with You". Maybe one day, I'll have the chance to say I'm 'in love'... until then...
Wanting to share every breath, every sorrow, every happiness, every pain, every sunrise and sunset, every joy. Knowing that you are a better person because they enrich your life so. And the feeling that when you walk into your front door, that you are home.

I can't say what "in love is" coz i have never felt it]
I am almost misty eyed. Cathii....I guess I'm the naive one at 54 years of age. Never have been 'in love'? Never have felt 'in love'? I know some people don't understand or know the difference. Hell, the ones to avoid are the ones who don't know there IS a difference. I hope this does not sound condescending, it certainly does not mean to be but I have actually, luckily, felt it 3 times in my life. After the last heartbreak I don't know that I can ever feel it again, I hope to but am not pursuing it. If it is meant to happen it will happen. I realize I have damn lucky to have experienced it 3 times. I wonder if anyone on the site can comment if they have felt it ever, never or many times.
(In my opinion) the definition of love various totally on the two people involved due to the different things they each bring to the relationship. Whether it's your first love, your true love, or (in the case of the dog mentioned here) puppy love, what the love is, is different every time and can also change over time. It may last for a short time, or forever, and even when and if it does it end, whether it ends good or badly, it still makes you a better person for having had it.
I feel for you Misozi. I read somewhere (forgive me for lack of details) that this guy had this dog. And when the guy past the dog stood sentry at his grave everyday rain or shine for a number of years until he himself past away. And now there's a statue of the little one over the grave honoring his commitment. I can't compete with that.
Love in terms of that of the opposite relationships is when you have such deep feelings for a person that no matter what happens, you will always be there for them.
I always hoped i could find my first love, i travelled everywhere to places i thought i could find him and i used to think that no matter what condition i find him in, i ll bring him home and take care of him, and when i finally did, he was 6 feet under.
