Some of you have asked several questions about my lapband Surgury . All thought I am not a doctor, nor do I play one on Tv I will answer to the best of my ability. First let me preface that It is not the "Majic Cure " I veiw it as a small Part of a multi pronged approach to removing , and keeping off the excess weight. several of the Questions asked have been:"Like how long was the recovery?" Recovery from the surgurey in my case was overnight in the hospital to recover from the Anasthesia. After that I was in bed for a bout two days from being sore in the midsection. The only other minor complication was some drainage from two of the places the doctor had to cut to put the band in. Such a minor complicationt would be typical from having to cut throught over 8 inches of belly fat (in my case) to put it in. To answer "How are you feeling?", I feel great! To answer the question of "How much weight have you lost?" So far I have lost over 125 since having the surgury in June 2007. Any side effects? Yes but manageable a few minor is chopped lettuce Salads I have to be very careful. I have to take small bites and chew very carefully. one more is any meat that had gristle I have to trim out and avoid. If not take chance of blocking my port opening. On the question of "I've heard that there was a significant failure rate of the LB" As with any of the other bariatric procedures there are ways to self destruct and still gain. like eating high caloric foods, Fruit juices, milk and lots of processed sugar. As for the effectiveness of it Gastric Lap banding I think for me it was the best choice because I have a Ex Wife who had the Gastric bypass and she was not able to keep it off because of some side effects of mal asorbition and senativity to some foods and two additional pregnacies with her new boy toy .

Like I've said before in all of my posted blogs on Lap bands. It is not the Majic cure . However it is a tool (one of many) that one can use to loose the excess weigh. There are days I get tempted to fall back to my bad eating habits, and some times fall in to them. However I know That I MUST not beat my self up If I slip up .However I must not allow them (the bad)eating trends in the long term to continue.

I have to say that Butter is the exception to the rule. I see so many patients come back to the unit/floor because of complicaions from eating/doing what is clearly contraindicated post-surgery. Many people, after the band, will revert to their old eating habits. Many will not lose as much as Butter did. Only a few will be quite as successful as Butter. And to his credit, he deserves MAJOR KUDOS. Butter has worked long and hard for his success and that takes massive amounts of effort. Congratulations, Butter. I DO hope for your continued progress and newfound health. Much Love, True

Congrats to you.  I'm having my Lap Band surgery on March 12.  Originally, I was going to have gastric bypass, however, the more I thought and read about it .. I didn't like the idea of my innards rearranged.  Also the ratio of 1:200 not making it out of surgery didn't sit well with me.

Keep up the great work!!

Well for me I really don't have much of a problem with carbonated sodas, other than they are too sweet now, and like a Junckie I have to avoid them much as possible. Because the high Sugar content I don't want to awaken the "Sleeping Sugar Monster" again . I don't want to back slide and become a "Sugar junckie" again. As for rice I have no problems with. It except I can't seem to get a good bowl of Fried Rice recently.I quess I got spoiled from the 9 month In Okinawia, Japan.lol

Wow Butter, congrats! My sister had gastric bypass surgery and she gained some of her weight back and has a problem eating rice (which is really hard for a 1/2 Japanese woman) and not being able to have sodas...even flat soda! She has dumped a few times due to having too much sugar, but all in all, we are very proud of her! I greatly admire your commitment to your health! You should be extremely proud of yourself, as I am proud of you too! Love, Elaine
