While winks are a great way to find out if someone's interested, why do I feel like some of the guys who send winks are just winking away at every profile they open?  It's like they have a tic and they're winking uncontrollably.

Do you wink at folks with whom you have things in common or do you play the odds and wink at everyone?

I just winked at someone but more in error than anything else.  A mistake because although I was into him the whole idea of "winking" seemed a little twee tbh.  Anyway he winked back and I emailed but now I'm not sure if he can email me back because he's not a preferred member!  Anyway, I certainly won't be winking at everyone if anyone else haha

I seldom send a wink to be honest ... if I was seeing anyone I really wanted to get in touch with I'd pay for the smallest amount of membership and email them. I don't often respond to winks either as they are almost exclusively from guys who do not have the simple reading and comprehension skills to pick up the very clear "UK only" message in my profile. One of the most infuriating winks is the one along the lines of "I'm not a gold member, please contact me". Bl00dy cheapskates ... YOU want to talk, YOU pay!!

I could agree more, Island! Especially since it's very clear who the paying members are, and a wink asking me to contact someone when they know I can't e-mail them either is just a whole lot of frustration and nothing more.

I only wink at those that are interesting to me. I just don't get why I get so many winks, etc. from guys that don't live anywhere near me. I don't want to spend hours chatting with someone I'll probably never meet and if we do meet the meeting will have too much pressure on it because of the long distances covered for the meeting.

I have only sent a couple winks here because the profile caught my attention in some way.  Sometimes I just wanted to comment on their profiles and did not want to meet or make contact either.

Do feel that some men wink at a lot of profiles in the hope that some will respond, and other really choose who they are interested in.  Guess its like life and meeting someone at a club, you dont know if they have selected you specially or if you are just one of many.

Life is only as wonderful as you think it is.

I don't wink at everyone, either. Just like in life, it's reserved for those who really impress me or make me feel like I want to reach out to them in some way. But like Smoosh said, it can also be just a way to give someone a warm fuzzy because they deserve it. I've had some very lovely people send winks after a particularly bad day on the blogs, and I've really appreciated the kindness.

I've looked at over 100 profiles and I've "winked" at 2 women. The first was actually a wink I was returning to someone. I feel if it's overdone then it's just meaningless.

Nope not me - what is the point of winking if you're going to send to everyone ? (plus I'm not that hard up - lol) I wink at someone who has a nice profile, attracts me by the view or their wording of something or who they are or even if they make me laugh sharing a common link. A wink doesn't always mean you want to have a long term connecttion - it depends on the message you send with the wink.
