Hello all my friends on Large friends. I hope you had a wonderful Christmas and the New Year brings you all your wishes, less hardships, good health, and much happiness. I have been offline for a week or so. I made a huge change in my life. For 41 years I have lived in the same small town in Wisconsin only a couple miles from my parents and my 3 siblings. I had a very safe and sheltered life there, not to mention happiness. As most of you know I remarried last June after a very bad 10-year marriage. He's a wonderful man. Unfortunately in my small town he couldn't find any sort of job while he is studying for his medical license exam. The jobs back home are very scarce and people are struggling. Well I made a very scary decision. My husband's sister lives in Tampa Florida so......we decided to move. Last week Saturday we celebrated an early Xmas with my family and left after that. Drove 24 hours through 5 states and now here I am. I must say I feel a sense of relief I have never felt before in my life. I do miss the foot of snow we got in Wisconsin but things seem to be going so well. Plus I have finally escaped my ex-husband's harassment. The first day I got here I was already offered a good job. Today I have a 2nd interview at another clinic . Florida seems to love me because it is also nice and cool here. So...I'm wondering....have any of you made any major life changes or moved across country? How did the experience treat you? Are you happy with the decision? Please share with us. Kat

10 and a half years ago I packed me and son and only few boxes of items and moved from Newfoundland to Ontario. The first 6 months was pure HELL!!! But I stuck it out and here I am almost 11 years later just loving being on the "mainland"!!

Hi Kat, and congratulations! I just made the move to Florida from CT on New Years Day. I have wanted to move south for awhile, unlike you, I HATED the snow and cold. I am so excited about being here and am looking forward to meeting new people. Kudos on making the move, especially with all your friends and family back in Wisconsin! Best of luck to you and your new husband! :)

Thanks disneygurl.......where are you in Florida? I'm in South Tampa.

If you call moving from Michigan to Australia in October and marrying the man I met right here on this site 3 1/2 years ago on New Year's Eve (yup, just a week ago), then I'd have to say, yes - I've had some major life changes. Good to see you doing so well too Kat! I've missed my LF friends, even though very few of you are still hanging around here...

Blue.........how the heck are you? Post us pics of your wedding. I miss your blogs and updates!!!

Dear Kat, Embrace the change. I've move from the East Coast to the West Coast by myself. I've gone from the North to the South. I've met and made wonderful friends everywhere I've moved. Escaping the harassment of an ex makes it even better. The best revenge is living a wonderful happy life. Florida is a great place for a medical professional or para professional with older than average population. You have someone with you which will make it easier. My friends couldn't believe I would move 2000+ miles by myself, but I did and have done it repeatedly to get better jobs. Keep your expenses low, don't buy too much junk. It's always best to travel light until you are ready to settle. Get involved in groups doing activities you like, or church groups to meet some friends, be the one to suggest to co-workers to join you (and your husband) for drinks, snacks, etc. at a local inexpensive restuarant.

Lynne, thanks for the tips. One nice thing is my husband's sister lives in our apartment complex. I also found a nice church and am going tomorrow to services and am intending to join. I don't know if I could have done it alone like you did but I'm proud of myself for doing it. Plus my 16-year-old kitty made the trip with us and he did wonderful!!!

Kat, I haven't made a major move though I would for the right Guy, lol. But I wanted to say thank you for sharing your experiance in your big move. It's so nice to hear positive things in the midst of so many negative things happening in lives these days. So many of us need to hear more of these encouraging stories. I wish much success, health and happiness for you and your husband in this New year 2010. Smiles-azure

I wish good things for you too Azure! I'm hoping that 2010 will bring happiness for all my family and friends...as 2009 sure was a tough one. Happy New Year. Kat
