I'm curious about something.  How effective is online dating?  What is the rate of success when it comes to lasting relationship??  Anyone would like a take a guess on that?? Do I have a better chance of winning the lotery???

Reading blogs around here it seems that online dating brings more aggravation and frustration then it does love.  I've heard of people who met their soulmate online, but I personally don't know any.  What is it, one or maybe two of your friends did... That still not a lot considering the millions that are dating through the internet.

Since the coming of online dating, has statistics changed and as a single woman, do I still get a better chance of being hit by lightning on my front lawn by a sunny day then to find true love???

Your opinion

I can only speak for myself, but I have found plenty of frustration from meeting men from online as well as meeting them in person!! However, I, too believe that the use of the internet has opened up MANY more doors to people that we may not otherwise have the fortune to meet. I am VERY happy to say that I have met someone wonderful from online. (Not from this site, but from another online dating site), and we are planning to get married in the fall. :-) I believe that it takes a lot of patience, especially if the one you are attracted to is not local to your area. We were lucky, my fiance lived in GA, about 5 hours from me, so we were able to visit almost every weekend and we were able to spend time together. I know of quite a few couples who have met online, and it's like meeting in person, some have worked out and some have not, but that's going to be true of any relationship, no matter who they meet. GOOD LUCK to all who are still searching for your soulmate and I hope you are all lucky enough to find that one that makes your heart melt as well as enhances your whole life!!

Well all the "good guys" I meet online who I trust and make a connection with live too far from me so for me it's not been very effective.

I can't speak to the law of averages. Some people may never find their life partner. Sad but true. But there are ways you can increase your odds most notably by increasing the number of people you meet. I did find mine, we are getting married in December, and I did find him here. I have a very good friend who found her mate through another internet dating site. They too have made marriage plans. The wonderful thing about the internet is that it allows you to come into contact with people you would not have otherwise met in your day to day life. Therefore, I would have to say it can increase your odds. Does online dating cause aggravation and frustration? Sure it does. But so does dating in real life.
