Now, most of you know me, and I believe most of you would think I am pretty fair-minded and level headed. Has anyone ever come across a user that did not take well (and I mean AT ALL) to a comment or constructive criticism? I recently came across someone who acted really SPOOKY. He said I apprently didn't want to be his "friend", and just all in all acted very strange. This person seemed to think I was "harrassing" them! Seriously, folks...would you consider one profile comment and a few (no more than 3) blog comments harrassment? Now, keep in mind there was absolutely NO mention of wanting to get to know this person, NO comments about liking this person, NO request to contact me or vice versa, NO wink sent, not ONE thing that would make any normal person think there was an attraction. My blog comments were directly related to the blog and ONLY to the blog. The profile comment was very generalized. I am asking because this person got vengeful VERY quickly, threatening to "ban" me. How do you handle that sort of situation? I notified LF right away, of course. They were exceptionally prompt in their response (thanks, LF!) and advised me to block the user. Before getting their reply, I attempted to notify the person of my request to cease all communique, but this user just turned it right back around and said I was the one harrassing them. I found this petty tit-for-tat quite boring and promptly blocked them. But, it was disconcerting to come across someone so quick to call me a name--"witch" to be exact--and no, I don't mean the "b" word. I really mean "witch". Even so, who does this sort of thing? Who is so pitifully self-absorbed as to think that the world is so "out to get them" that they have to get it first? I am a long time user of this site, have actively participated in the blogs for a long time, and am generally a decent user. It irritates me to no end that a brand new user such as this would just come in, post one or two blogs and complain about the replies they got? Why not just reply back? Why not duke it out in an intelligent and cohesive blog? Why not be a grown-up and use your "talking words" and not your "name calling" words? Why do people have to be so ignorant and immature? Obviously, I am just ranting here, hoping someone will share in my moment of aggravation. I am just amazed sometimes at what humans do to one another under the guise of civilized communication! Good luck to all!--True

OOPS! I am commenting on another one of your blogs--I must be stalking you. Oh well, everyone here already knows I am. lol Don't let this guy worry you, I read what you said to him and like Kat I thought you were being most helpful. I guess some guys just can't take good advice when they get it (I need no comment from you here). Trying to help people will sometimes get you in hot water but weigh the ones that liked your comments against this one guy, keep up the good work.---Tom

I read your comment on the persons profile and didn't find a thing wrong with it. I actually thought you were trying to be helpful. Let it blow off your shoulders and chalk it up to his anger issues....which I'm suspecting he has. Kat

Just for the record, yes I'm new to the site, and no, true isn't talking about me! I think it's that whole veil of anonymity on sites like this that cause these over-reaction. Remember, a significant part of human conversation is non-verbal in nature (the tone of the voice, the inflection, the body gestures). What you may perceive as a light-hearted jab may be taken as an unforgivable insult. But in your case, I think the guy acted like a tool. Perhaps it was the phase of the (internet) moon or something -- I think you've done the right thing and just continue to ignore him from now on.

I too have come across this - talk about someone having a bad day. Tried to explain the misunderstanding and threatened and blocked. Who wants someone who puts their energy into anger ? Go ahead and rant - it's hard to understand the whys and wherefores and we all come across them in some form (I'm sure I've had my days but never to the extreme I don't think) Here's to another day and people with a conscience and manners.

Truefriend

¿

Funny, it never happened to me before... but then I'm the wicked bitch of the west... so it keeps insecure and volatile people away from me... lol lol

¿

I would have done exactly the same, make one attempt trying to explain the missunderstanding and banned him when being replied to with such an attitude.

¿

You time is better use having fun with us all good and stable people then to waste time trying to convince someone who obviously is in need of¿a few classes in people skills and communication.¿ I like you... to me, that's all that matter.¿ Lots of people around here like you.¿ Take it to the bank and forget the nitwit.

Hi True,

I've come across this on other sites, more general forum ones not dating specifically. I've come to the conclusion that for some people the internet is a very personal even precious connection to the outside world. The sites they go to are their social meeting-place, the people on those sites are their friends, & anything they post is their personal possession, not open for discussion never mind critique, because friends don't do that to each other, right? I've made the mistake a couple of times of making a comment relating to someone else's post, only to have them either treat me to a stream of abuse by private message rather than discuss it openly in a thread - one guy's delightful response was that he hoped my left one got infected & weeped pus for a year & a day! What kind of person writes that? A sad one, in the original sense of the word.

¿

A lot of people aren't good at face-to-face or telephone communication, & so for them the internet is the one place where they can say what they want without struggling to find the words, & they want to be able to do that without interruption, comment or ridicule. Any comment that shows the remotest disagreement is taken as usurping that "right", hence their "You're not my friend - you're a $¿%**^/!!" stance.

¿

I'd take the view that it takes all sorts to make a world, so by definition there has to be at least one of them in it. :)
