I don't know this man, but please follow your intuition and stop talking to this man. Even if there was a snowball's chance in hell that his job actually sent him to Nigeria on assignment, I think that it is inappropriate for him to ask you for money when you and he have only been talking for a few weeks. Doesn't he have friends or family that he can ask to help him? Couldn't he ask the person who is supposed to be sending him the check have the money sent to him via a Moneygram or Western Union? Nigeria has those type of establishments.

You are correct to be suspicious of him. If a man was serious about getting to know a woman who was a potential love interest, there is no way that he would do or say anything to seem that he needed money from her. He would not want her to think that he was too broke to take her out or spend any money on her.
