As long as the person is safe and we get along, the number of partners in the past doesn't mean much to me. Obviously, if its 1000 or something, I would begin to question the motives of the person, and if their definition of LTR consists of dinner and a movie.

On the few occasions when I have been asked this question, I have always answered with a high number and added, "that really isn't a lot when you consider that there are billions of people in the world." To me, for a man to ask me a question like that means that he is judging my "morality", and I don't like that. It automatically makes me feel defensive and I have no choice but to strike back...in my own little passive-aggressive way, of course. So while he is judging me about my sexual past, I hope that he is squirming in the sexual insecurity that I hope my answer causes him.

Re: smoosh write: Ever been asked the question - How many partners have you been with? and wonder yourself how many is too many ? I think it depends on the age of the person, the time frame the partners are spread over and the situation. So.. what are your thoughts? less than 10, 20, 30 , too many?

Yes, I have been asked this question and my response is usually the same; why are you asking? I don't allow anyone else to define who I am or what is too much or too little. I live my life by my rules only. People who have time to stand around and judge others, have way too much time on their hands or they need to put others down to make themselves feel better. Either way, I don't care what others think. That is just me.

Men only seemed to get asked that question by other men,so the response is usually much higher than the actual number. It seems to me that the only person's opinion that would matter, of how many is too many, would be your own.Don't waste time worrying about what others think, you sleep with who you choose, as many as that may be,until you finally get to that last person. At that point will the others really matter ?

smoosh - this is a great question. I really don't know what the answer is. I supose it boils down to however many you need to be with to feel satisfied??? What is they say as long as its all safe sane and consentual???? Or whatever your conscience is comfortable with??? I do know that the older I get the more open minded I am and the less puritantical I get...try not to judge but like Dr J I think it was who died last year and the lists of the numbers of partners he'd had - well it just seemd kind of sad. I wonder that the act had lost a deep degree of intimacy and had instead turned into a numbers/quanitity game.

I don't think it has anything to do with age. I think the average partner varies from person to person; of course women (for the most part) will average less than men because we are (again, for the most part) emotional lovers, and men are (again.. frmp) physical lovers. Too many would be defined for me by how long the person has been sexually active. I think, for my age and length of sexual freedom, I haven't slept with enough! lol
