Just wondering if anyone has used an alias in order to protect you and your family's identity while you date and try to get to know someone? And I don't mean those who use a different name as they are looking for some on the side as they are "married" or "in a relationship"..... I am looking for some feedback on those people who are serious about a relationship but are being cautious and weeding out the crazies before they share more than their email address, cell phone # and some dates. Thanks all!

HI Scratchandycap,

I think we all need to be careful in this day and age. Cyber stalking is just as harmful and any other type of stalking. Its an invation of privacy and if a con artist wants to get to you, they will.

¿

We all need to be aware out there. Give your cell phone number if you must or you call then and make sure that your number is not visible on caller ID. !!

So I was reading through some of these blog topics and comments, and while many of them are interesting, humourous and insightful, this one was particularly relevant to me.

Not loo long ago, I decided to share my phone number with another member of this site. We'd chatted a couple of times in IM and she was a little eager to talk and hear my voice (the accent seems to be a hinderance rather than a help). So, being the eternal optimist, I shared. Well...two months hence, 100 obesessive phone calls later, and other various and sundry stalking tactics later, I've had to change my phone number, and I actually worry that somehow I have something more to worry about.

So, is it just me, or is it really a big deal if I decide I don't want to share my phone number with someone until I've chatted with them enough times to get a good sense whether they are psychotic or not. Just this past week, in fact, I was insulted and reprimanded for not giving my phone number to someone who I had chatted with on IM for not even 5 minutes. And I was made to feel like the "d*ck"!

Is it me, or does that seem either desperate or chemically imballanced? Curious minds want to know.

For me it depends. I have a slew of email addresses so I use different ones for different circumstances, such as where I've meet someone online. People I meet who are local or via a friend I will give my cell# or work# when making plans. I have a land line and a 2nd cellphone so giving out a number isn't too much of a problem. As for my name, I usually don't give out my last name until I decide I wish to. Even after I've been on a date or two. I almost always use my married name as it's not my legal name. I usually scare off most idiots and fools right from the gitgo. And it is very, very rare that I will share info without another sharing with me first.

Good topic, I use my Hebrew name, Nisi, but I also give my maiden name. I think, in today's day and age, we all need to be careful, male and female. The best actors are con artists, before you know it you in embroiled in a mess. I know first hand. I'm very careful. I understand your reasoning but to me that seems like a road heading for disaster. I know men and women tend to think differently, but if I was getting to know a guy who I found out had done that I'd immediately wonder what else they were lying about and would run a mile in the opposite direction!

I did but I don't think that Ted Bundy went over too well LOL but seriously folks..my true spin on this one is I'd fear that if I used an alias the object of my affection might consider that deceitful and maintain that sentiment thru our relationship..what is it that most of the women want here?
