As this new year starts, in an effort to be healthier, three friends and I are going to be doing Stanley Burroughs Master Cleanse Diet (sometimes referred to as the Lemonaide Diet) for 10 days starting on January 14th. We are doing this to allow our digestive systems to rest, giving our bodies energy to utilize towards cleansing itself out, to give us increased energy, cleanse our bodies of toxins and waste, and to help us break some bad health habits we have developed. If anyone wants to join us in our endeavors to cleanse our bodies, please feel free to. Although people do lose weight on this diet, which is really a liquid fast with added nutrients, the weight loss is primarily from cleaning and detoxifying the body, not from losing fat. However, once you have spent 10 days cleaning the inside of your body-from cells to organs, hopefully you will be more alert and careful about what you put into your body once you end the diet and resume eating foods again. The contents of this blog are not to be considered medical advice. Always check with your personal doctor before starting any diet or modifying any health or fitness routine.

I ended doing the Master Cleanse today after 24 days on it-14 days longer than I ever intended to do it for. I have plans for Valentines Day and Mardi Gras here in Louisiana that include indulging in some wonderful food so I need to prepare my tummy for it. :) I feel so much better than before I started the cleanse. I was retaining some fluids recently and am not any more. I have increased energy and started taking some line dancing classes. I dropped 26.5 pounds and am very happy with that. I went to the grocery store after work and bought some fresh veggies and fruits and fish-which I have been craving for the last several days. Strange thing is, I bought my 18 year old son some cereal and cookies he wanted-and neither of them are appealing to me at all right now. I am craving for a nice healthy salad and a piece of fish!

My ten days on the Master Cleanse that I set out to do are off officially up at midnight tonight! And I did it,amazing even myself, even with my friends all quitting before the 10 days were up! One ended up not starting and two others went 6 days;one was a female, the other a male. I wasn't so sure when I started this adventure that I would be able to endure 10 days with no food and liquids only. But I did it, felt good 98% of the time, most days had energy(and I work hard at my job and do a lot of running around), wasn't really hungry after the first 3 days and I have lost 13 pounds on top of it! I have totally lost some swelling I was having in my legs and feel much lighter. I've got someone from here wanting to do it,and two more friends of mine that are going to start it, one of which is a man. Anyone up for doing round two with me? I think I am going to try another 10 days!

Wow! I'm already on day four of the cleanse and feeling great even with a recent schedule change at work that is flip flopping my work and sleep schedule all around! Amazingly I don't feel like I am starving to death, in fact I don't even feel hungry! I have apparently been retaining a lot of fluid as I can see a difference in the size of my fingers. It's great to know I am building a healthy blood stream, eliminating all unusable waste and hardened material in my joints and muscles, cleansing my kidneys and digestive system, purifying my cells and glands throughout my entire body, relieving pressure and irritation on my nerves, arteries and blood vessels and dissolving and eliminating toxins and congestion formed in my body over the years. LOL..well, some of it anyway. I am realistic enough to know that years of build up isn't going to go away overnight, but this is a great beginning!

WWGuy-In addition to pesticides and preservatives in our foods that get put into our bodies these days that our stressed livers have to rid of toxins, food processors and meat producers use antibiotics, growth hormones and other chemicals and biologicals that don't go away when the animals are slaughtered or cooked. So we wind up taking growth hormone and tetracycline and not even knowing it, and who knows what else we are ingesting? Our livers have so much more to clean out of our systems these days compared to years ago. Our air is polluted, our rivers, lakes and our land. These are our food sources. We are putting all this into our bodies expecting it to do all the work, and wondering why we get diseases. I guess a good analogy would be a car. We change the oil and the oil filter every so many miles to keep it running better. When we do a fast or detox,it gives our organs a rest and a chance to cleanse themselves out and flush out the filter-the liver and other organs. If you are interested in knowing more, I recommend a book called Toxic Relief by Don Colbert, MD.

One can usually find the Master Cleanse Book by Stanley Burroughs at a health food store. There are also numerous websites online that have the necessary info about it. Keep in mind that some of these sites may be trying to sell you additional items to buy to add to the original cleanse. These items are not necessary. The one recommendation I have heard from others that did this was that a laxative tea was much easier to tolerate than the salt water flush, and this is mentioned in the book. So, anyone interested, gather your supplies...this Sunday is the start date!

I have been thinking of doing this. Did you find the information for it online? I have heard of it but do not know the details.

Wanda, I want to do this with you!

In your rocking-chair, by your window dreaming, shall you long, alone. In your rocking-chair, by your window, shall you dream such happiness as you may never feel. –Theodore Dreiser
