I don't know why, but I find that when I wear a certain perfume for a while, it seems to change on me and I begin to detest the scent. I may wear it a few times a week, if that. My favorite is an oldie but a goody and that is "L'Air du Temps". I have worn it off and on since 1979. I love it because it smells romantic. Truly a ruffles and lace, secksy lingerie type of fragrance. Another one that I have tried and liked on me was "Enchanted" by All My Children. My honey bought it for me for my first birthday that I spent with him. It has a spicy smell but not overpowering. Not romantic, but I do like that it seems to go with everything. Sort of all purpose. A few years ago, my cousin bought me a fragrance called "Michael" by Michael Kors. The smell is sophisticated. It's funny but I seem to lean toward this fragrance when I wear a pants suit. To me, it is very authoritative which is how I feel when I wear a pants suit. (Geez, I never realized how much fragrance was tied into mood until I responded to this blog).

wyldechild thanks for the advice on locating the Apollo .But you and honeybiscuit got me thinking about a chain of stores "the body shop". If I remember correctly one can mix their own scents there at a fairly reasonable price. I Have to update my colones all I have now is Stetson , Aspen, and Brut.

Another one of my favorites, Christian Dior, Jadore...I absolutely love this fragrance. I like the fact that I can wear most any fragrance, but this is particularly good one on me.

Musks...yum. I love vanilla too although I don't have many fragrances with vanilla notes. I do have one, Addict by Christian Dior. OMG...heaven in a bottle...

Re: nyangel write: mmmmmmmmm..scents are soo sexy! I used to love this one called Tribe. It was such a sensual scent. I have recently been told that the Cotton Blossom I was wearing made me delicious enough to eat..hehehe! On a guy, I like anything that makes me want to bury my face into his chest. YUMMY!

Goood enough to eat, now that's one of the best compliments one can receive!!! *wink*. I don't know if I've smelled Tribe. I have a fragrance I adore too that's no longer made and I hoard what little I have left.

Re: honeybiscuit write: Love this topic by the way. I am sure it is no suprize to you that I would be extremely picky and cognizant of scents. Maybe that old chef in me. Anyone read the book Perfume? And the ability of aroma's to influence mood and wellness is so magically powerful to me. So Men - what do I like? Just about anything with bay, lavendar, bergomot, vetivier, fir, woodsy. +shrugging+ And there are some men - just their sweat has me following them around or dipping a bit too close for a better whiff. I know it is a pheromone thing but it really gets me. Can't stand - heavy spice and florals. There is one perfume that is very common that many women wear that practically makes me gag. And I think it may be a chanel fragrance. Pachouli can be disgusting if not worn with a very light hand or if it clashes with the wearers natural fragrance.

I had hoped it would be an enjoyable one. I know it is for me...LOL. I like many of the same scents for men that you have listed. I have a few men's colognes I wear myself. And yes, sweat and just the scent of man...*grin* Spices and florals I do like. Cardamom is a particular favorite and I like rose, clove and sandalwood blends. Patchouli I love because it reminds me of my high school and college days...*wink*. But yes, in small doses!!!

Great article!! Scent is truly the most articulate sense we have. It is also the strongest link to memories as well. After my hubby died, I kept his pillowcase and one of his t-shirts under my pillow, the "him" smell mixed with his deoderant and cologne. I bought each of my stepdaughters a bottle of the cologne he wore as it was such a strong, good memory for them.

Nantucket Briar, that's a beautiful scent. I like C&E's jojoba oil, Summer Hill and lily of the valley products. Caswell Massey is another favorite haunt but we don't have one where I live now. Oh, and one can't forget the health food stores. If you like musks and attars, Nemat Fragrance has some awesome scents. Very rich and exotic...*wink*. Oh, isn't it great fun to experiment and create your own scents? I've been practicing aromatherapy on and off for approx. 15 years. Neroli is one of my most favorite scents. I use it in my diffuser quite often, ylang ylang as well as it's good for calming irritable children (and moms!!!) Chanel's Allure Sensuelle and Magical Moon by Hanai Mori both stray from the traditional realm of perfumery as they are created more in the sense of an aromatherapy type of blending.

2nd part of previous posting from Psychology today on how to sniff out a good mate. 4.Genetic incompatibility is not the only reason you may find his odor offensive. Does his body scent seem unusually intense? He might have a medical condition that explains the smell. Ask him to bring it up at his next medical checkup. A very sweet scent is sometimes evidence of diabetes or schizophrenia?both of which appear to be heritable. It is wise to discuss these issues with each other, and with a doctor, before having kids. 5.Before you decide that your relationship stinks, check your mate's diet. A taste for spicy foods or an overindulgence in garlic can cause strong body odors. 6.If your mate still offends, don't head for the hills just yet. Some clothing detergents can prove to be a bad mix with a fella's scent. Ask that the next time he visits the laundry, he change brands?and give the stinker a second chance!

from psychology today = in 2 posts due to length. How To Smell A Mate How does body odor affect a woman's sexiness? Scientists don't know for sure, but they do know that a man's allure depends in part on how many immune system genes he shares with a potential mate. Since it's known that women can detect genetic compatibility by smell?it's not that men can't but that so far no one knows?the onus is on females to sniff out a suitable squire. Choosing a genetically compatible partner can be difficult it today's perfume rich postindustrial jungle, and getting your immune system genes profiled can be expensive. Before you run to a doctor for blood work to see whether your mate is a suitable match?and sire for your future children?try listening to your nose. (Unfortunately, the sniff test will only work if you're not taking birth control pills.) 1.Declare a deception-free day for the nostrils. Have your beau shower with fragrance-free soap and wear clean cotton clothing for a day, away from smokers and the perfumed masses. Be sure you don't have a cold, and that you yourself haven't been around smokers for a few days. 2.After he spends a day and a night in his cotton clothes, before he tosses them in the direction of the hamper, wrestle them from him and have a "smelldown." Make it a romantic experience. If your man's shirt doesn't offend, you should be safe. (Find the scent alluring or sexy? Even better! That attraction is nature's way of telling you he's a safe contributor to your offspring's genetic ensemble.) 3.If your man's odor reminds you of your father or of a brother, you may want to consider getting in touch with your doctor and ask about genetic tests before trying to conceive a child. Tell the doctor you're concerned that you may share a close MHC or "HLA" profile. (HLA, for human leukocyte antigen, is a technical tag for human MHC.) Meanwhile, a deceptively pleasing gift of cologne might be in order.
