I am a recently separated woman that wants some feedback before jumping back into the dating pool.
* does having children scare good men off.
* other than sites like this where is a good place to start looking (on more of a local level)
* are there good men out there.
*I am asking only because it has been over a decade since I have dated and I know that the world of dating has changed. Thank you for any and all feedback.

Having children can be a deal breaker in some cases. If a man wants nothing to do with you simply because you have children, then he's not worth your time. Also you must be careful with having trouble when bringing a new man around them. There are a lot of predators out there. So just be careful. There are good men out there, however they are amongst a sea of jerks and man-skanks. You can always look up info on them using the internet. You can always look up info on them using the internet. Also there are some specific sites that specialize in these serivices. On this site, women can search through a database of men and read comments and files written on men from ex girlfriends. These are very helpful. They tell you a lot of things, most of them. Like if he is a known cheater, liar, abuser, user, etc. It is very helpful. A lot of the names on the listings though have no comments, which is idiotic. However some of those comments are from spiteful ex's just trying to be nasty or cruel. So try to find out more about the individual. You can also post on there about men you've dated to warn other women. Thats the only advice I can really give you. I hope it helps. Good luck out there. Just don't get eaten by the sharks in the sea of potential partners.

A lady having kids can present problems , But these problems are ones that can be overcome. For some men a lady having kids can be more than they may want to deal with. some reasons can be,1)not wanting an "Instant Family".2)Having to try to deal with the resentment from the children that you are taking from their Mommy Time" from them.3)There can be clashes of parenting styles in dealing with a child's acting up. As for meeting new people try a class at the local community collage. Or try more... He brings out some very good points. I have thought about them ALL, and then some. I have three boys. I have also thought about dating. But I have also decided it's not for me. I want to spend time with a male companion, but I want no part of a committed relationship. I am going to be completely selfish and focus on ME. I gave so much in my marriage that I neglected myself in the process. I resent that, and I think that would show in a relationship too soon. I don't know how old your k more... I don't know how old your kids are, but mine range in ages from 4 to 13. I'm not going to subject them to the dating game. It's going to be a long while before I play THAT card!

When I was your age I would have said that I saw no problem with dating a woman with children. However experience has taught me that dating a woman with children is probably much more difficult than dating one without. Children put a strain on any relationship. They can also very quickly subvert a new one. Experience has also taught me to be very wary of entering into a committment in which long term child support could be an issue.

Unless the man you date and you are completely in synch in terms of parenting styles, he may feel overwhelmed by your children and feel that he has no say in how they behave, which could be a major source of tension in your relationship. Also children demand so much attention, it is difficult to get a new relationship on track.
I learned to keep women I was dating away from my college age daughter as long as possible when she was living with me. Children just seem to make dating more difficult for both parents.
Those are some of the major negatives. Still I'm sure that there are good men out there who would be happy to take on a ready made family. I hope that it works out for you both, should that come to pass.
