Well, to CybafungalUK: I hope Christmas improves for you. I realize you're fed up with the commercialized aspect of it, but something you must realize is that you don't HAVE to celebrate it that way! I don't. I used to, but then I realized how wrong it is to cheapen this totally special, (literally) God given holiday. I've toned my gift giving down to the bare minimum. I give small, token gifts. My kids don't beg for things they know I won't buy --they have learned early on that Christmas is NOT about "gimme, gimme". While most of us celebrate the religious aspects, others only like the bliss of the season. I truly don't give a hoot why OTHER people celebrate, because religion is a PERSONAL choice. So, I choose to celebrate it with my family MY way. Once you realize you don't HAVE to keep up with the pace the world takes while celebrating Christmas, you will have so much more fun watching others and enjoy yours! Merry, Merry, Merry and Happy, Happy, Happy! (Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!)

There are a few parts I enjoy (thanks for reminding me what they are Stacey) but I always feel pressure this time of year and I think the holiday has become too commercialized.
As for the tree I never put it up before Thanksgiving. And I actually have purchased two gifts so far this year. I'm usually a last minute shopper, still hitting the stores on Christmas Eve, but this year I'm hoping to have all my Christmas shopping done by November 1st. Wouldn't that be a kick?
Christmas? BAH HUMBUG!

I love Christmas. I love the atmosphere in the shops when all the decorations are out. I love thinking of things to get my family and friends. I love putting up my tree and watching the lights on it at night. I love, love it if it snows during the season and especially on Christmas day. I love sitting around with hot chocolate and listening to Christmas music and wrapping presents. And this year I am even more excited because I have my amazing boyfriend and even though we are 4,400 miles apart, Christmas will feel even more amazing because he will be with me in my heart.
Re: CybaFunGalUK write: For heaven's sake it's only October. In fact, still September when you posted. I've grown to dislike Christmas more and more over the years, the main reason simply because by 25th December I'm soooo bored with it! (I'm not knocking the religious significance of it before you all get on my case!)
It must be a nightmare for those with kids who have them pestering for their wish list as soon as the summer is over, and whilst I do try to spread out the present buying myself to even out the financial load, I really do not want to see all the tinsel and glitz in the shops for a quarter of the year!
Even more bizarre, I popped to the supermarket on the way home. Lots of Christmas stuff on the shelves .... and Hot Cross Buns! Work that one out!

Yeah, I've been shopping early, too. I like to pick up what I can throughout the year, and keep a mental tally. Then in Nov. & Dec. I pick and choose the last bits. I keep a bin of wraps and bows and tape, so I always have that. I also keep it really simple. Only immediate family get special or expensive gifts. Sometimes, not even then. It depends on if I can make some really good Christmas goodies or find a craft I want to make. I think Pictures in a frame (from the dollar tree) are PERFECT sometimes. I'm getting the kids' portraits done soon, and that's gonna make a LOT of gifts for me! I send a note or recipes, too. Happy Early Holidays! Oh--when do you guys put up the tree? I plan on doing it right after Halloween!

Good god, it's not xmas eve yet!!! Too early to do xmas shopping...LOL.
I do most of my shopping online so I do start in Oct/Nov if I have an idea of what the kids want. I have a b-day girl end of Nov. so when she tells me what she wants for her b-day, I will sometimes pick up a few for xmas but my older one doesn't always have what she wants figured out until closer to the holidays. The rest of my stepkids usually get giftcards. My mom, dad, brother and sister I usually catch up with by July, the following year...LOL. But that's usually because I like to make things for them.
Although if I do see things when I'm out and about that I know my family or friends will like, I will sometimes pick them up then.
