Has anyone tried any shoe inserts or insoles that they've really liked? I've been tempted to try the new Dr. Scholl's machines but I'm leery of breaking it by standing on it(lol).
I need arch support and I want to invest in something that actually works for someone other than the folks on the infomercials. So, if anyone has something that's worked, can you please share?

Well I have some insight into this. For years I managed a prosthetic/orthotic clinic. Here's what I can tell you from a professional angle.
1) If you are diabetic you will normally qualify for 1 pair of diabetic shoes and 3 pairs of custom molded insoles. Insurance pays for this 9/10 times. If you are on Medicare they pay for 1 pair of shoes and 3 pairs of custom molded inserts per year at no cost if you have a supplemental insurance along with Medicare.
2) If you are not diabetic but have some sort of foot deformity (hammertoes, pes cavus, varus valgus, etc.) and have private insurance they will usually pay for the custom inserts as well.
3) If you have no insurance my advice would be to go to the "Dr. Comfort" website. They carry specialty shoes and inserts that are usually "heat molded" to your foot. They are very comfortable and reasonable in price. You could also purchase shoes & inserts from "Drew Shoes" also found on a website.
Hope this helps....if you need more info hit me up.

I'm a big fan of Birkenstocks, and I just found out they make an insole. I'm thinking of trying them, hoping it will make a pair of Keen's work that are good in some ways but don't have enough arch or metatarsal arch support for me.
I have high arches and really need aggressive support. Sometimes the right shoe is enough ... Birkenstocks and Chacos work for me without anything added. Hope that helps.

I have only used "real" orthotics but my sister likes Dr Scholl's insoles but think she uses for the charcoal/smell odor eater not so much for her foot. Good Luck

Hello Naught, I haven't tried any inserts, however I have tried many types of shoes, tennis shoes, nursing shoes, and they did not work for me. I have found that birkenstocks work the best for me. The arch in those shoes fit perfectly to my arch. Albeit not the most attractive shoes at times, they have come a long way. A bit pricey as well, but they last a very long time. Hope this helps.
