Just out of curiosity...Why is the use of all capital letters so prevalent lately? Not just on LF but on other sites and in emails, I've seen an increase in the use of all caps. I pointed it out to someone at work the other day after receiving my 3rd all-caps email. She said she hadn't noticed. Is it just me again or does someone else also see the Capitalization Epidemic? LOL ;-)

Quoting ozredhead62

Have to agree with you, feels just like they are yelling at me. I think they are just too lazy and cant be bothered the hard work needed to hold 2 fingers down at the same time. lol I actually find it harder to read when they are all uppercaps as they dont have the same variance and flow of sentences and paragraphs to follow easily. Another thing that bothers me is the lack of paragraphs, especially in a long email or comments. Way too damn hard to follow. Do wonder if all this is a lack of manners, education or effort?

Yep I'm with you on that Oz .... all in caps and I lose interest in what the content is as my eyes have to work too hard when the words are all the same shape. Beyond a couple of lines of yelling and it's really not going to draw me in! We were given education and upper/lower case letters for a reason, and that's so they flow well and we can read them with minimal fuss. If the writer can't put in the effort to set out their words in a readable way I certainly won't put in the effort to read them :)

MY REASON FOR TYPING ALL CAPS, I TYPE SSSOOO MUCH FASTER, IT DOES NOT MEAN I'M YELLING AT ANYONE OR UPSET, TRY TO SEE IT AS "VISUAL WHISPERS THAT TICKLE YOUR EYES". ;)

I agree with AbzWayne that If some one is having a difficult time seeing the screen that may be the reason. However there is a wonderful button that will change the size of the print on the screen. It is called the Zoom button on a Windows OS. Normally it is located on the bottom Right side of the screen. On a 17 inch monitor one can go up to 200% and still not have to much trouble reading most of the comment screen.

think it is a problem in Emails.. just try being in an online chat room. Some obnoxious moderator will see this. "Greetings folks, AbzWayne here.. just wanting to say.. HELLLLOOOO! .. Muhahaaa" now all I have done is had a wee laugh, a quick hello to the room, what does said obnoxious moderator do, Ban's me for 5 mins for using caps ??? For using one word in caps ... for Emphasis... a Ban! I used to Moderate in other chats, and someone using caps would be checked off, no big deal, just look at the context, and use common sense. But there are a lot of folks that type in all caps as they cant see the writing clearly, here is an idea, Change the friggin screen resolution... hell, you can even use the features for seeing better, under accessibility. Then you get the IGNORANT asswipes that use all caps cause they are to thick and pathetic to realise that an un-written rule in chat is do not use all caps, as it is considered rude and shouting. OK, Rant Over.... Normal service shall resume after one cup of coffee.. make that 2 or 3 :) Peace.

Agreed that everybody lately is all capping. Some do it because of they say it is easier to read. Some because the are going through an personal energy crisis and are trying to conserve energy. Me personally I need the exersise, so I 99.999% I dont use all caps.I only use them when trying to express my dis-approval at something.I feel it is better to speak softly ( useing correct as possible gramatical form) than shout at the world and get drowned out by the din.It has been said that if you want to be heard speak softly. I feel that is true today as it was in the past. I say speak softly , but carry a 2X4 to drive you point home for those whom are Cranially poroisty challenged once you got their attention .lol But as of now stupidity, and lack of manners is not a crime ... so some will keep doing it.
