With summer coming up I'm guessing some of you might be taking a vacation or some weekend getaways....so this is my question....What is the best vacation or getaway you ever took? What made it special?

For me I have never even been out of the country and haven't been to too many states so mine was a weekend getaway on our Lake Michigan Carferry. It goes from my town in Wisconsin to Ludington Michigan. I went with my mother and daughter....just us 3 girls. We cruised 4 hours on the lake....spent the weekend in a nice hotel....saw the sights and had a leisurely cruise home a few days later. So tell me about yours.

Kris

I loved London. It was fantastic, but it was also many years ago. I've always wanted to go back again.
More recently, I had a very long weekend in Seattle that was wonderful.¿ There are great resteraunts to try; we had our last dinner out at the top of a waterfall, and spent much of the time running around finding Chihuly installations - one of my favorite artists.¿ We went to the top of the Space Needle, to the Experience Music Project (over priced entrance fee), and stumbled over an amazing collection of early Theodor Geisel (Dr Seuss) lithographs in a tiny little gallery.

I've been blessed to have had several VERY memorable vacations, but one of my fondest was I took my two daughters with my friend and her two daughters and we went to NY. We stayed with my friends family and took the girls into the city every day and played tourist, it was so much FUN!! My girls got along so well together and we just enjoyed being together!!

¿
Sorry I cant help you here,¿ I have not been on a vacation since I was about 20 years old, a long long time ago, the memory of it fades. lol
¿
I am thinking of taking one later this year though I have not decided on where as yet.¿ Maybe the US or UK or I just might see what Bali is like.¿
¿
Either way I cant wait, and if I'm lucky I might be able to meet up with some of the lovely people I have met on here at the same time. :)

Life is only as wonderful as you think it is.

In over 15 years of marraige, my ex never once took me on a vacation, though I asked many times. Before marraige, I only ever went on family vacations (all before the age of 10) and once before we got married, we went to Biltmore in North Carolina.

However, the very BEST time I EVER had on a "vacation" in my entite adult life was in 2002. My very best friend on EARTH bought me a round trip ticket to see her in Nebraska. The entire time I was there, I got to sleep in, relax, spend time with my very best bud, have dinners out, and once-- we even went out to a bar to ahve drinks and sing kareoke. I had the best time, and I will NEVER forget it.

THAT is my dream vacation. I want to do it again, with my sister and my best friend. I plan on doing something similar either this year or next year, to celebrate the final decree! I can't WAIT!

The states are nice too. I would say Mount Rushmore is someplace to visit. It is just amazing how the faces are carved into the mountian.
In MI, Mackinaw Island is a great place to visit. See the great little shops and walk or bike the island or a guided tour by carriage and horses. Also, Ste. Saint Marie ~ locks ~ how the different levels of water get balanced out for the ships. Outlet shopping at Birch Run and quaint shops in Frankenmuth, good chicken dinner.
Chicago is a great place to visit but I would suggest you have to have an idea before you get there of what you want to do. I have been to Navy Pier and walking around down town. I hear thier zoo and aquarium are great. Utah is a beautiful state to visit as well as most national parks. And if you like shopping Mall of America in MN.

My most recent vacation was wonderful. My friend and i went to Punta Cana, Dominican Republic. They have beautiful blue water and palm trees. Our resort was full of day and evening activites you could participate in or just lay by the pool or ocean. There were day trips you could also take for an extra price. Someplace I would go back to.

One good place I like is Garner State Park here in Texas. Cool Clear water, to go tubing with plenty of Cypress trees to play under. If tubing is not your thing there are hiking trails to use for Birding and,to go hiking on.The park has many camping padsites for tents with showers and restrooms centrally located throught the park. There are RV pads and Rv hookups availabe at reasonable rates. For the more civalized, screened enclusures and a few furnished cabins with A/C's¿for rent. However the cabbins are in very hot demand¿, so one has to reserve them¿ months in advance.

My most memorable, even from my childhood, would have to be my vacations spent at the beach. Ahh, how I love the beach. The only place where I can relax... just enjoy the beach. I have a very busy & fast life (don't we all). Appt.'s, deadlines, self-improvement, etc. I want to retire somewhere near the ocean. It is where I have been happiest. I want to be the "crazy old lady, with the funny looking hat, leather-like skin who drives that rusty ol' pickup, wonders up & down the beach all day & drinks too much." lol!!! What a goal.
Thanks for asking. PG
