Just edited my profile from saying I have two dogs to I've had dogs all my life as pets until recently. It stings. Through all the chaos and upheaval my life has gone through in the past six months the hardest part was having to give up my kids. Really, it was the hardest thing I ever had to do. *sigh*

Just to update, it was about six months after the initial blog post that I got my new Keeshond puppy Winter. This was in 2007. A year and a half later I rescued a black pomeraian named Sarge from a shelter, he was 3 years old when we got him.

Both dogs are big furry balls of love and have been a constant comfort in their life. They get a long together great and are very good companion and company dogs.

Naturalremedy, I'm so glad your little guy is back! The stench and grunginess...yeah that will happen when your dog is kept like that, but he's home, that's the most important thing. About my dogs...I had complications from surgery last year and was depending on some people to help me care for Chase and Ciccio, but that fell through. They actually told me to drop them off at an animal shelter, Chase has epilepsy and needs a bunch of medicine every day, if an animal shelter took her in they would have no choice but to euthanize her. No way would I allow that. So I got a hold of someone from Keeshond Rescue. These people are wonderful and this person was extraordinary. She took in both my dogs even though one was a Pomeranian. By then with everything else going on, I was being forced to move. The only place I could find, I couldn't take my kids. So the lady from Keeshond Rescue found people to adopt them. Chase is in New Jersey and apparently has bonded with her new owner. Ciccio is in Virginia and from what I've heard he's very happy and his new family is very happy with him. There's a hole in my heart where my two sweeties used to be, and it aches, but as long as I know they are ok, I'll be ok.

I am so sorry to hear that naturalremedy. You have my best hopes and wishes that Griffin is returned to you soon and in fine health. It was the vet's responsibility to inform you he needed his rabbies vac. The same thing happened with me and Chase. The city left a notice on my door that I had neglected giving her her rabbies shot and I had just taken her to the vet that had been seeing her since she was a puppy, spent much $$$ on getting all her shots, and they said she got every vac she was due for. I know you miss your little guy and how much it hurts, but don't feel irresponsible, these things happen. (((HUGS)))

I know about the Love and companionship that a pet gives. That's the wonderful thing about them, they will love you unconditionally. But (I know that this isn't a replacement) now you might be able to find other pets who would want your love and care. Try the local animal shelter, there's bound to be that special animal there who needs your Love and care.
