I had my two bottom wisdom teeth removed Friday after putting it off for almost 6 years.
My face is swollen, I can't eat any solids, I can't sleep because of the pain, and if that weren't bad enough, my tongue has been numb ever since the procedure.
I want to cry and whine and just be a big baby!!!

Just the right side is numb... and it feels perculiar when I try to life it to the roof of my mouth. Some dentist say it could come back within a few months or so...
The worst part is I keep burning my tongue and not realize it until after the fact.

The numbness in my tongue did not go away. And after consulting with three different dental professionals... it's likely it will stay that way. Apparently it's one of the complications that can occur when getting your wisdom teeth removed. Who knew?

Is your whole tongue numb or part? I have heard of this happening but in the case I knew about the feeling came back for him after a year or so. Hope yours does as well.

Oh what memories your post brought back. I had all 4 of my wisdom teeth out years ago.. It was excruciating..I swear the dentist was a horse doctor. He didn't put me out and he yanked so hard I thought he had broken my jaw. A nighmare experience all the way around. I so empathize with you.

Oh man right before Christmas last year I was having trouble with one so I was going to get it taken out, but they told me you don't wanna go through this twice, get all 4 done cause you will need the others done later down the road. So I did and part of me is glad cause I would have died before going through that again. Sadly I woke up in the middle of it all and they had to knock me out again just to finish up. Not only was part of my tongue but lip and face. I could have understood all of me being numb but no just one half of me. I thought I had a stroke or something. I was so swollen it looked like I had been 5 rounds with Tyson. My lip were so dry and wrinkled up that they looked like the Grand Canyon. I had to slurp jello for days, even after I was mobile again. It was horrible. Great diet! I swear I lost 15 lbs. I stayed on the couch for 3 days cause I didn't want to move and it was easier to get off the couch than the bed. Oh I was pathetic. ha ha I wouldn't have wished that on anyone. The numbness took about way over a month or so to go away. I really thought he did something wrong or did damage to my nerves. I couldn't believe how long it took for everything to get back to normal.

Glad that the worst is over. I still worry about the numbness/tingly feeling. Do you have a dentist or oral surgeon you can trust to tell you what's up with that?

Oh CG I am so sorry that you've had to go through this. I once had a nerve pressed on in a tooth and it felt like I was being shot trhough with electricity. and that was just a split second. I cannot imagine the pain you've endured. Well the bright side is that you know you can handle an awfullot now. Maybe you should get pregnant right away while your pain tolerance is high. Ok bad idea.

Is there anything else that your dr/dentist told you to do to help speed the healing process or certain things to not to do or not eat? can't believe they can't do something to ease some of your pain and suffering...keep your chin up

That's BS. He should have spliced the tissues surrounding the good tooth, leftover from the bad to cover the exposed roots and nerves. This surgeon is a QUACK. "If it walks like a duck, and talks like a duck..."

So... the reason for all the pain is simply this... (or not so simply)
When the dental surgeon removed the wisdom tooth on the right side... he exposed the tooth next to it. Right now... there is a hole in my mouth and the tooth is there open... there is no gum/skin/tissue whatever there to protect it. So the pain is from the exposed tooth and nerves that was NEXT to the wisdom tooth.
It will be this way until the gum/skin/tissue heals around it.
So the clove oil is my best friend for now and my poor lips are so dry because of it.
And that's that my LF friends!!! Thank you all for caring enough to write here and offer advise and just plain ole sympathy. You guys and gals are the BEST!!!!
