I personally don't thing bringing flowers on a first date will go out of style. I think that on a first real date bringing a little something would be nice especially if you know her.

Hi Tom, Rather thought provoking. In my humble opinion, I think that it's not a good idea to being anything but yourself to a first date, second date or third date. That being said, once you've committed to an exclusive relationship it would be nice if your partner showed some interest in your likes and dislikes by listening and observing. Then showing up with something that might be more in line with what's going on in her life. I dare say that should also apply to the ladies. It's all about being interested enough to learn about the person you committed to be with right now. Aimee Fla

Tom, No I would not be upset in the least. Some things are still classic, and really do not need to be changed. People need to be accepting of whatever gift has been bestowed upon them, as well as gracious. My humble opinion. Qadesh

Are you kidding me? Of course not. I would be surprised, but not upset. To me, when a man brings a woman flowers, it means that he has actually taken the time to go to the florist/store and pick out something he thinks she might like. Most men these days are only interested in what he can get "after" the date. I would be flattered if man brought me flowers.

Not at all! I think flowers are STILL nice. I like them, and the only time I would get them, is if someone gave them to me. I don't look for "romance" on the first date, but flowers are a nice traditional gesture of a budding romance. I think older women appreciate the flowers, sometimes more so than younger. But, each woman has her own likes and dislikes.--True

Hi Tom, I would never be upset with flowers - bowled over sure - but on that note - when someone gets to know me they will realize I am not the flower type and that the money could be better spent (dinner/movie/go karting/concert)although I am completely moved by the thought. I don't know about the dollar store trinket either - I don't think a gift is the way to go to impress me on a first date. Maybe 1-3 flowers showing thought or thoughtful note/joke/clipping about something we had discussed. It's a first date - not my birthday or a celebration. Dazzle me with who you are. I'm thinking i'm in the minority here but just my thoughts.
