I think I have figured it out.

I can't spell for beans, thus I type my postings in Word then copy and paste. For some reasons the codes do not transfer. If however I put the punctuation in after transferring the text into the post window, then they seem to take.

Just thought I would share incase anyone else was bugged by it.
